Gerberoy

Gerberoy , village classified among the most beautiful villages of France, is a common French, located in the department of the Oise and the area Picardy. Its inhabitants is called Gerboréens.

Geography

Gerberoy is a village of Oise Norman, located on a hillock near the Pays of Bray, close to Songeons in Oise.

History

In -57, construction by the Romans of a Oppidum on the Mound of Gerberoy
In 885 Foulques, first lord of Gerberoy, vassal of the count of Beauvais builds the first strong Château stone, to replace a castle-extremely out of wooden.
In 912, following the Traité Saint-Clearly-on-Epte, the fortress, located at the border Norman, becomes a strategic place that French and English will dispute of XIe at the 16th century.
At the end of January or at the beginning of February 1079, William the Conqueror faces close to Gerberoy his/her son Robert Courteheuse, combined with the king de France Philippe Ier. This battle sees the defeat of the king d' Angleterre which is even wounded during the confrontations.
