Gerberge of Saxony

Gerberge of Saxony , (born in 913 or 915 - died the May 5th 969 according to certain sources, or 984 according to others, with Rheims) is the girl of Henri Ier the Bird-catcher, king de Germanie and of Mathilde de Reingelheim ( holy Mathilde ).

She marries in 928 Gislebert, duke of Lotharingie († 939), and a:

  • Henri, titular duke of Lotharingie, died in 944
  • Alberade, married to Renaud, count de Roucy
  • Hedwige
  • Gerberge, married with Albert Ier the Piles († 987), count de Vermandois

It remarie fine 939 with Louis IV of Overseas (921 † 954), king de France. It gives seven children to her husband:

  • Lothaire (941 † 986), its successor on the throne of France.
  • Mathilde, (943 - † 992) wife in 964 Conrad III of Burgundy, known as the Pacific .
  • Charles or Carloman, born in 945, died before 953
  • a young dead girl (born into 958)
  • Louis (948 - † 954)
  • Charles duke of Low-Lotharingie (953 † 991)
  • Henri (953 - † 953) twin of Charles of Low-Lotharingie

When Louis IV is made prisoner by the duke of Normandy, she fights for the kingdom and negotiates the release of the king.

In 954, it is again widowed and becomes regent during the minority of his son. She then manages to stop the revolts of large vassal kingdom and Marie Lothaire with Emma of Italy in order to make alliance with the Germanie. She dies out in Rheims, a May 5th, that is to say in 969 according to certain sources, or 984 according to others.
