Gerbépal
Gerbépal is a commune of the North-East of the France, in the department of the the Vosges and the Canton of Corcieux. The Gentilé of Forfelet is divided besides by the inhabitants of Corcieux, the limits of communes having been very moving to the wire of the centuries.
Geography
The village extends on 8 km along the CD8, to 12 km of Gérardmer and 17 of the Saint-Dié-of-Vosges, between the Col of the Ceiling (632 m) and the Col of Martimpré (798 m). Its total relief is tilted towards the north-north-west, going 1083 m to the Croix Hanzo to 583 m when the Neuné, affluent of the Vologne, joined Corcieux.The glacier which worked the valley left some zones of Tourbière S and two small ponds with the locality Martimpré . The name of Gerbépal undoubtedly comes from Latin palus (marsh).
History
Gerbépal belonged to a field pertaining to the counts de Martimprey. The castle of those, set fire to by the Swedes during the War Thirty Year old, was rebuilt but definitively destroyed in November 1944.In 1790, the current territory was divided between the municipalities of Vichibure and Martimpré . In 1792, the hamlet of Vichibure was included in the commune of Corcieux and the commune of Gerbépal was created, including Martimpré.
The commune was populated than today, exceeding the thousand of inhabitants during the XIXe century.
