Gerard de Ridefort
Gerard de Ridefort or Girard de Ridefort was born in Flanders in the Années 1140. Puîné brother of a Flemish lord, it hardly hopes for fortune in his country. Arrived in Holy Land to cut there a stronghold, it joined the Second crusade in 1146. Raymond III of Tripoli promises to him a rich person marriage with his vassal Lucia de Botrun but is charmed finally, preferring the offer of a rich person negotiating pisan. He was done of Ridefort an mortal enemy.
From now on combined Guy de Lusignan, Ridefort is introduced into the Ordre of the Temple of which it becomes Sénéchal in 1183 and Maître as of 1185. After the death of Baudouin IV in 1185 and of Baudouin V a little later it tears off the crown of the Royaume of Jerusalem in Raymond III in 1186 with the profit of its ally.
The bold campaigns carried out by Ridefort against Saladin are disastrous and cost many lives in the two camps.
With died of Ridefort in front of Acre the October 4th 1189, the four Latin States of the East are bloodless and the dubious fate of the engagements.
