Gerard d\' Aboville

Gerard d' Aboville born in Paris, the September 5th 1945, is a French navigator who initiated the discipline of the oceanic crossings to the oar as a recluse.

He is the back grandson of the general of empire Auguste Ernest d' Aboville.

In 1980, started from Cape Cod with the the United States on July 10th, it arrives at Brest the September 21st, 71 days and 23 hours later, after having traversed 5.200 kilometers. Its boat, the Captain Cook , measured 5,60 meters. It is the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean as a recluse to the oar.

In 1980, it takes part in the rally Paris-Dakar in the motor bike with his/her four brothers, each one on Kawasaki KL 250.

In 1991, it crosses the Pacific Ocean to the oar. It starts from Chōshi, with the Japan, on July 10th and reached the American coasts the November 21st.

He is appointed European of 1994 with 1999.

Since, it was invested in the ecological fight and the safeguard of the marine inheritance with the Foundation of the Maritime and River Inheritance . He is President of the Superior council of the Pleasure sailing and the water sports.

In 2001, Gerard d' Aboville accompanied by Hubert de Chevigny and Bernard Lafferrière flew over the north pole with a small single-engined aircraft (Private Explorer) without the assistance of electronic instruments of navigation, simply in visual flying as at the time of the first overflight of the Pole.
