Gerard Garouste , born the March 10th 1946 with Paris, is a painter, illustrator, decorator French. He lives and works with the Marcilly-on-Eure in the the Eure, since 1979.
Gerard Garouste makes his studies with the École of the Art schools of Paris of 1965 to 1972, in the workshop of Gustave Singier. He discovers Duchamp then. At that time, it creates many scenography for his friend the author and director Jean-Michel Ribes (in particular on the spectacles One needs that the Sycamore runs , Jacky parady etc….). In 1977, it presents the Palace the Traditional one and to the Indian , a spectacle of which he is the author, the director and the decorator. It will intervene with the De luxe hotel until 1982, as scenographer and painter.
In 1980, it exposes for the first time to the gallery Durand-Serves, with a figurative painting, mythological and allegorical. It is the beginning of its national recognition, then international. Its first international exhibition takes place with New York in 1982 in Holly Solomon Gallery. Others will follow, in particular at Leo Castelli and Sperone. He is the only French artist invited to the Zeitgeist exposure to Berlin. The institutional recognition arrives in 1987, with CAPC of Bordeaux, where it jointly presents oils on fabrics and acrylic resins on Indian, then with the Fondation Cartier.
It carried out works or decorations for the Elys3ee palace (paintings), the cathedral of Évry (sculptures), the theater of Namur (ceiling) or the Notre-Dame church of Bruising (stained glasses). In 1989, Garouste carries out the curtain of scene of the Théâtre of Châtelet.
A big step of its action is the foundation in 1991 of association the Source, which was fixed for goal to help of the young people of culturally underprivileged mediums to develop personnellemnt by the artistic expression.
It receives order, in 1996, of a monumental work for the National library of France, mixing painting and wrought iron. Sculpture and engraving attract it more and more, as well as the illustration of universal texts, of Don Quichotte to the Haggada.
In 2001, it presents, with the Fondation Cartier, Ellipse , together of fabrics assembled on an architecture which it itself drew.
