Gerard Filion
Gerard Filion , ex-director of the Owe of Montreal, was born the August 18th 1909 with the Isle-Green and is deceased the March 26th 2005 with Saint-Bruno-with-Montarville.
Mr. Filion occupied of many functions. He was successively journalist and general secretary of the catholic Union of the farmers (the ancestor of the current UPA), 1935-1947; director of the daily newspaper the Duty, 1947-1963; managing director of the General society of financing, 1963-1966; and general president-director of Navy Industry of Sorel, 1966-1974.
He was also member, then president of the School commission of Saint-Bruno-of-Montarville, 1947-1963; founder president of the regional School commission of Chambly, 1961-1963; vice-president of the royal Commission of enquiry into education (Commission Relative), 1961-1966; mayor of Saint-Bruno, 1960-1968; and president of the Council of Press of Quebec, 1983-1987.
He is recognized mainly for his fight against the mode of Maurice Duplessis during the Années 1950. Its uprightness, its rigor and its pragmatism characterized Gerard Filion, that several regard as one of the precursors of the " Revolution tranquille" in Quebec.
The engagement of Gerard Filion was underlined and rewarded on different occasions. He was companion about Canada, large officer of the National order of Quebec, member of the Royal Company of Canada, member of the Academy of Large Montérégiens, and honorary doctor of the University of Montreal.
Married to Francoise Servêtre (deceased in 1992), it had nine children.
