Gerard Collomb

Gerard Collomb , born the June 20th 1947 with Chalon-sur-Saône, is a Politician French, senator-mayor of Lyon.

Life

After a khâgne with the College of the Park, then higher learning at the university, in Lyon, Gerard Collomb becomes qualified schoolteacher of traditional letters in 1970. He teaches in several colleges of the area, in particular with the Lycée Jean Perrin, in the 9th district of Lyon. As of the end of the Years 1960, it takes part in the recasting of the Socialist party in the Rhone. It enters to the municipal council of Lyon in 1977, then is elected appointed in 1981, at the thirty four years age.

It is named responsible within the Socialist party for the relationships to the other political movements and the trade unions, then becomes national secretary in 1986. Leader of the opposition within the municipal council of Lyon, it is him which carries out the opposition to Michel Noir when this one is elected mayor in 1989. Appointed national secretary of the Socialist party, delegated to the foreign relations then with the countries in the process of development, Gerard Collomb takes part in the creation of the Fondation Jean Jaurès, of which he becomes general secretary as of his creation in 1992. He will be also member of the Economic and Social Council and regional adviser of the area the Rhone-Alps (of 1992 to 1999).

Initiator of the plural left, his list gains three districts with the municipal elections of 1995. Elected official mayor of 9th, it integrates the executive of Large Lyon chaired by Raymond Barre. Senator in 2000, it gains the Municipal elections of Lyon in 2001 against Charles Million and Jean-Michel Dubernard and becomes mayor the March 25th and chair Grand Lyon. In 2004, he is re-elected senator of the Rhone. Since May 2003, it takes the presidency of the National council of the PS (re-elected in 2004).

Elected official in June 2005 chair Commission decentralized co-operation of the world network Cités and Local governments Plain, then president of the world Agency of numeric solidarity in July 2005, it also chairs the Commission of the European and international businesses within the Association of the Mayors of Big cities of France. Elected official in October 2006 with the presidency of the Association of the urban communities of France, Gerard Collomb, the Mayor of Lyon, also chairs since November 2006 Eurocities, network which federates the 130 most important metropolises of Europe.

Pragmatic, preaching a Social democracy reformist, Gerard Collomb was within the Socialist party in the mobility of Dominique Strauss-Kahn before becoming one of the first declared supports of Ségolène Royal at the time of the countryside of the presidential elections of 2007.

Homonym

One should not confuse Gerard Collomb with his homonym Francisque Collomb, which was also mayor of Lyon and senator of the Rhone.

It should not either be confused with its other homonym, the Father Gerard Colomb, who is cleaned Paroisse co. Cross, in the 2 {{E}} district of Lyon.
