Gerard Bouchard

Gerard Bouchard (December 26th 1943 -) is a Historien, a Sociologue and a writer Québécois.

Native of Jonquière, it studies with the faculty of social sciences of the Université Laval of Georges-Henri Lévesque with Fernand Dumont and Leon Dion.

After having obtained a control in Sociology in 1968, it enters to the Université of Paris and obtains its doctorate in history in 1972 (thesis published in 1972 by the Plon Bookstore, in Paris, under the title the motionless Village: Sennely - in-Sologne at the XVIIIe century ). Become professor with UQAC, it publishes on the Génétique populations and the Démographie of Quebec.

Bouchard is the creator of the inter-University Institut of research on the populations (IREP). He is also the brother of the ex-first minister Lucien Bouchard.

With its test Genesis of the nations and cultures of the new world , it took to the head of the historical school néo-nationalist. The researcher Ronald Rudin reproached him for being a revisionist.

The February 8th 2007, it is named copresident of the Commission of consultation on the practices of compromises connected to the cultural differences.
