Gerard Alaphilippe

Gerard Alaphilippe is a trade unionist teaching (Snes) French, born in 1929.

Biography

Wire of a technician of the postal and telecommunications authorities, it adheres to the French Communist party, that his/her father had joined during the Occupation, in 1947. Political militant, it has responsibilities in the apparatus for the federation of PCF of Haute-Garonne, while continuing his studies, with Toulouse, then with Paris. He bails out even penal judgment to have taken part in a demonstration against the Guerre of Indo-China, in 1950.

In 1960, it obtains the aggregation of Geography, and reorientates its militant activity towards the teaching trade unionism, while adhering to the Snes. Transferred Marseilles to Paris in 1964, it becomes starting from this date, the principal spokesperson of the Communists within the tendency B (future Unité and Action) of Snes, carried out then by André Drubay, which was not member of the party. It enters this same year to the national administrative Commission of this trade union.

In 1967, when Unit and Action obtain the majority in the internal elections, Gerard Alaphilippe between with the national management of the trade union, within what one calls then the " minis-secrétariat" , with a rather vague and broad responsibility, including the publications and the trade-union formation. The trade union owes him in particular a policy of restoration of its newspaper and an opening of the communication outside.

In 1971, he becomes assistant general secretary, and will be during ten years a kind of number 2 of Snes, behind Etienne Camy-Peyret, with very general attributions. It is thus very logically that at the beginning of this one, in 1981, he becomes the third general secretary of Snes, the first to belong to the Communist party. The period, however, is complex for him. He pains to reconcile his support for a left majority which he called of his wishes and disillusions of the employees, and more particularly of the teachers, as for the policy that it carries out. This situation, coupled seems it with personal difficulties, the conduit to present its resignation, in an unexpected way, in 1984, into full " war scolaire" on the question of secularity. It is then replaced by Monique Vuaillat.

While remaining adherent of Snes, there gives up any militant activity.
