Gerald Antoine
Gerald Antoine, born the July 5th 1915 with Paris 9 {{E}}, philologist and grammairien French, former vice-chancellor of the academy of Orleans - Turns, adviser of several Ministers for the Education, of which Edgar Faure, former mayor of Allarmont (the Vosges).
Professor of letters
Gerald Antoine is the son of Alphonse Antoine (1890-1969), general French and resistant.
Incorporated grammar in 1939, and arts doctor, Gerald Antoine was in charge of conferences at the national universities of Saint-Cloud and Fontenay-Aux-Roses of 1935 at 1962.
Artillery candidate, it is made prisoner in 1940 not far from medical Metz and is repatriated in 1942.
He is professor of letters to the Ronsard college of Vendôme of 1943 to 1947.
In 1947, it is elected university lecturer with the Faculty of Arts of Clermont-Ferrand where it teaches until in 1954. After three years as university lecturer with the Sorbonne, he is elected professor of history of the French language (modern and contemporary time) in this same university (1957).
Of 1978 with 1983, he was professor of French literature at the Paris-III University then professor emeritus.
Having ensured the republication of the History of the French language of the origins our days of Ferdinand Brunot, it supplements it of three volumes corresponding to the periods 1880-1914 (1985), 1914-1945 (1995) and 1945-2000 (2000).
According to the biography published by the royal Academy of language and French literature of Belgium, Gerald Antoine “shows by the practice impossibility of dealing with linguistic phenomenon without taking into account the aspects synchronic and diachronic, as well as dimensions psychological, rhythmic, logical and semantics of each sentence where this type of words appears. The approach is claimed of a stylistics where the fact of style is regarded as the most conscious expression, most subtly revealing of the psychological fact. ”
He particularly worked on the work of Paul Claudel and on that of Holy-Beuve.
Collaborators of Ministers for Education
From 1960, Gerald Antoine was member many cabinets near several successive Ministers for state education: adviser technical, in charge of higher education and research, near Louis Joxe, Pierre Guillaumat and Lucien Pays (1960 - 1961), operations manager (higher educations, research, European university co-operation) near Edgar Faure (1968 - 1969), operations manager near Joseph Fontanet then Rene Haby (1973 - 1975).
It is at the sides of Edgar Faure that he plays the most important part, putting in building site the law of orientation of higher education. Besides this one will recall it near him of so much operations manager when he becomes president of the National Assembly (1975 - 1978).
Its designs were expressed in 1968 in “the reform of the University”, published in collaboration with Jean-Claude Passeron.
Founder of the academy of Orleans-Turns
Gerald Antoine was vice-chancellor of the academy of Orleans-Turns as of his creation in 1961 and until 1973. He contributes for this reason to the foundation of the universities of Orleans and Turns.
He is during ten years Member of the Franco-German permanent Commission of the vice-chancellors.
Member of academies in France and Belgium
Gerald Antoine was elected with the Academy of Science morals and political in April 1997, in the Morale section and Sociology, with the armchair of Pierre-Georges Castex.
He is elected in October 1982 foreign member philologist of the royal Académie of language and French literature of Belgium.
Gerald Antoine was made commander of the Légion of honor, of the National order of the Merit and the academic Palmes, Officier of Arts and Lettres and officer of the Ordre of the Crown (Belgium).
Marie d' Allarmont
Gerald Antoine occupied the functions city council man Allarmont (the Vosges) of 1977 with 1983. He was re-elected in 1983 then elected mayor, function which he exerts until in 1989.
He founds and chairs association for the development of the valley of the Plaine which gathers today in a public corporation of inter-commune co-operation 59 communes of Meurthe-et-Moselle and of the Vosges. He founds association “Lorrain cultural development” with Metz.
Gerald Antoine expressed his attachment with the values founders of the Republic in the Liberté collection, equality, fraternity published in 1981.
