Geostationary Satellite

A geostationary satellite is an Artificial satellite which is on a Geostationary orbit.

A satellite on this Orbit located at 35  786 km of Altitude have a Period of revolution very exactly equal to the Period of rotation of the Earth and appear motionless compared to a point of reference at the surface of the Earth, i.e. always remains with the vertical of the same point on ground , property used to make of them satellite S of observation, Télécommunications, or of Télédiffusion. To respect this property, a geostationary satellite is inevitably located in the plan of the equator . Its rate of rotation - its angular velocity of rotation - is equal to that of the Earth, that is to say approximately 15°/heure.
