Georgius Agricola , known as Agricola , of its true name Georg Pawer or George Landmann (born the March 24th 1494 with Glauchau in Saxony - died the November 21st 1555 with Chemnitz) was a German archeologist of the 16th century, considered as the “ father of the Minéralogie and the Sidérurgie ” because of its major work Re Metallica which constitutes the first reference book on the mining techniques and the work of metal, accompanied by many illustrations.
Its name Latinized Agricola is the translation of its German name, Bauer , which means country . It would undoubtedly have been given to him by its Masters, everyday usage at the time.
