Georgios Kondylis

Georgios Kondylis (in Greek modern: Γεώργιος Κονδύλης ) was a soldier and Greek politician born in 1878 and deceased in 1936. It was called Keraunos , thunder in Greek.

Military career

Kondylis was born in Proussós. It engages in the army in 1896 and fights with the Greek task force in Crete. It takes share with the fights for Macedonia (1904-1908), and obtains the rank of captain at the time of the Balkan Guerres. It supports the Movement of national defense of Eleftherios Venizelos during the First World War, and is opposed to the return of the king Constantin Ier of Greece in 1920. It leaves then for Constantinople with other officers venizelists to organize the " Defense démocratique" ( Δημοκρατική Άμυνα ). It returns to Greece in 1922 with the rank of general, and takes his military retirement in 1923 to be devoted to the policy

Political career

He is elected appointed with the Hellenic Parlement and founds the national Democratic party. The August 21st 1926, it reverses the dictatorship of Theodoros Pangalos at the time of a form and coup d'etat a government and calls with elections in November. Its party does not take however share there.

At the time of the elections of August 1928, its party obtains nine seats at the Parliament. In 1933, Kondylis is named Minister for the Armies.

When the October 10th 1935, the chiefs of the armed forces reverse the government of Panagis Tsaldaris, the former Kondylis republican declares regent, the Republic abolishes and programs a plebiscite for on November 11th on the return to monarchy. After the return of the king Georges II on November 25th, it disputes with this one and resigns. With the elections of 1936, it is combined in Ioannis Rallis and is arranged to have fifteen elected deputies. He dies little of time afterwards, the 1936 with Athens of an heart attack.
