Georgios Kaphantaris
Georgios Kaphantaris (in Greek modern: Γεώργιος Καφαντάρης , sometimes written Kafantaris or Kafandaris ) was a Greek politician , born in 1873 in the Nome eurytanie.
It was named Minister for the agriculture of the government Venizelos but entered in dissension with him in connection with the behavior of elections whereas the Greek army was implied in minor Asia. With the defeat of the liberal party of Venizelos to the elections, Kaphantaris left the country for the France and the Italy. After the defeat in minor Asia, it is named Minister for justice. In 1924, Venizelos resigned for health reasons and indicated Kaphantaris like its successor, who then becomes Prime Minister. Kaphantaris was moderate for what related to the abolition of monarchy and was constrained to hardly resign a month after the beginning of its mandate.
He was opposed to the dictatorship Theodoros Pangalos and after the inversion of this one, Kaphantaris was named several times Minister for Finance.
Criticisms of Vénizelos in 1927-1928 against the government to which Kaphantaris belonged pushed the Minister for Finance, then chief of the party of Progressist-Liberals, with the resignation and thus with that of all the government. The elections which followed (April 19th, 1928, with the majority one, gave to Venizelos 223 of the 300 seats.
It takes part in the coup d'etat missed of March 1st, 1935. This coup d'etat precipitates the dictatorship of Ioánnis Metaxás. Condemned to several years of prison, Kaphantaris is quickly grâcié.
Kaphantaris dies in 1946.
