Georgi Dobrovolski

Georgi Timofeïevitch Dobrovolski (in Russian: ГеоргийТимофеевичДобровольский ) is a Soviet Cosmonaute born on June 1st 1928 and accidentally deceased the June 30th 1971, during the return to earth.

Biography

Flights carried out

It carries out a single flight as commander of the flight Soyuz 11, the June 6th 1971, and remains 23 days on board the space station Salyut 1 (new record of duration of flight). At the time of the return to earth, a valve of the capsule opens accidentally and the capsule is depressurized abruptly, asphyxiating instantaneously the three members of the crew. The Soyuz capsule will only land in automatic mode.

Others

The numbered asteroids 1789 to 1791 were baptized in homage to the three cosmonauts.
