History
The Hippodrome of Aurillac was born by ministerial Décret from the March 27th 1820. It is to date the oldest hippodrome of France still in activity. Of 1821 to today, the races of Aurillac proceeded without interruption, except period of war (1871, 1914-1918 and 1939-1945).
Aurillac and Bordeaux were the only cities for a long time where the Grands Prix of the time were run: royal Prices of midday. These prices had been instituted by the Count d' Artois, future King Charles X, father of the Turf in France. The royal Grands Prix were then wide on the eight equine districts: Paris, Tarbes, Toulouse, Pau, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Saint-Brieuc and Aurillac.
July 15th 1824, by ministerial decision, the horse-races of Aurillac were high with the row of First order. A principal price was creates and, during the same year, two royal Prices of midday are affected for him.
July 30th 1843, for the first time, of the races are organized with Riom-be-Mountains, in the Arrondissement of Mauriac. These public races are added to those of Maurs and Aurillac. The Cantal then becomes a strategic point of the breeding of the horse of blood in France.
In 1854, the Emperor Napoleon III inaugurates the Hippodrome of Longchamp in area Paris ienne. So the races of Aurillac abruptly blow since private allowances of the government. In 1859, the Company of the races of the Cantal is threatened of disappearance. It will be saved thanks to the National stud farms which know a success without precedent then. In 1878, the army ensures the safety on the hippodrome and of the races reserved for the Arab thorough-breds are organized.
In 1891, whereas the Parisian races go up in power, the Prefect of the Cantal is shown by the Ministre for agriculture to benefit from the races of the hippodrome of Aurillac to make its political propaganda. This incident does not block the rise of the Company of the Races this year. September 21st, 1901, a case of tuberculosis is detected on the hippodrome. May 16th, 1908, the Minister for the War approves the creation of a military steeplechase to the program of the races of June 28th, 1908 with Aurillac.
In 1937, the Minister for agriculture authorizes the Company of the races of Maurs, lately created, to open its hippodrome and to install theMutual one there. The races of Maurs will continue until in the Forties.
From 1935, the Company of the Races of the Cantal develops more and more. Three days take place in 1938 instead of two the previous years. It results an enlarging from it from the house of the Bet-mutual .
Since, the number of meetings totaled two per annum on the Georges Hippodrome of Breil. In 1975, two buildings, sheltering a score of boxings each one, were associated with the old construction located at the center of the court. Since the construction of the National stud farm and school of horsemanship on the site of Tronquières, in the Eighties, the Hippodrome fits from now on in the “pole horse” of the city géraldienne. Thanks to the General advice of the Cantal, it is the subject regularly of work of setting in safety and restoration.
