Georges Yvan “Géo” Andre
Georges Yvan " Géo" Andre (known as the Bison in Racing, and the complete Man in athletics), born the August 13rd 1889 with Paris, deceased the May 4th 1943 close to Tunis, is a Athlète and player of Rugby to XV French (left winger), of 1 m 86 per 84 kg. He was a former student of the University of electricity and University of aeronautics, groom, and father of two enfants.
He took part in the decathlon, the pentathlon, the high jump, the high jump without dash, the long jump without dash and the 110 m hedges with the OJ of 1912 (!), and the Olympic oath with the OJ of 1924 in Paris pronounced, in the name of all the athletes present.
He became then sports correspondent, with the Miroir of the sports , Excelsior , the Intransigent and the Life with the great outdoors , publishing his sporting almanac regularly the Ace at the end of the Twenties, as well as a work the race on foot. Speed with the ED. Bornemann in 1936.
Many stages in France nowadays bear its name, including one in Paris.
Mobilized in August 1914 (*) then seriously wounded, it was made prisoner and managed to escape from its 6th attempt… to take again at once the combat as a fighter pilot this time, in the flotilla of the Cigognes , thus obtaining the military decoration! Following a ball having crossed its ankle, it will be necessary a long rehabilitation for him after 1918 before finding all its physiques.

During the second world war, folded up out of Algerian ground in 1940, it engaged in the infantry of the Irregular forces of Africa (at 51 years), and was killed three years later during the reconquest of Tunis whereas it took again the aerial combats. A commemorative plaque honors its memory, 9 rue Marguerin in Paris, place where it résidait.
His/her son, Jacques, were champion of France of the 110 m hedges in 1938, then officer member of the flotilla " Normandy-Niémen " (16 victories with its credit).
(*): in 1915, on the Champagne face, it will dispute even part of " rugby" in company of the already quadragénaire Henri Amand ex-captain of the French Stage, under the shells and in mud!
