Georges Valois , from his true name Alfred-Georges Gressent was born in 1878, was a French politician. Seeking a new form of economic and social organization as well as the synthesis of the national and of social, it oscillated between the radicalities of left and right-hand side. Stopped in the Hotel of Ardières, in the Ardillats, by Gestapo on May 18th, 1944, he dies of the Typhus to Bergen-Belsen in 1945. The Hotel of Ardières was a structure which it had bought to develop its ultimate activities, of which the Résistance, and who was managed in a co-operative way by l'" Association of the friends of the Valley of Ardières" (according to documents found in the ruins of the hotel and held today by the mayor of the village, Mr. Morey).
Biography
Beginnings on the left
Resulting from a country and working family, Georges Valois militates initially in anarchistic movements , and collaborates in the newspaper new Humanity . He becomes the disciple of Georges Sorel, theorist of the revolutionary trade unionism, and binds friendship with the young person Henri Lagrange.
Convergences between French Action and trade unionism
Georges Valois then adheres to the movement Charles Maurras in which he sees a revolutionary weapon against capitalism. It follows to Action French labor questions, and is project superintendent of Circle Proudhon (1911), which believes to implement the policy of Georges Sorel by linking revolutionary maurrassiens and trade unionists, but leads to a dead end. One could say that its ideas were a prefiguration of the Fascism, which will be concretized in Italy. Georges Valois belongs to those which want to push with the end the social open way opened by the French Action.
the Beam, first attempt at French Fascism (1925-1928)
In 1925 Georges Valois founds the first fascistic movement not Italian, the Beam. In spite of the adhesion of Hubert Lagardelle (come from the left) or of Marcel Bucard (resulting him also from the AF, and future founder of the Left francist, openly fascist), the Beam disappears in 1928.
Return on the left (years 1930)
Alfred-Georges Gressent creates then the Republican party trade unionist. He changes provision into 1934, while launching the daily newspaper Nouvel Age , by preserving the character supporter of corporatism to him which circulates in the Non-conformistes of the years 1930. In 1935, it goes even until requiring adhesion of SFIO. But, in spite of the sponsorship of Marceau Green woodpecker, adhesion is refused to him. Near to the current distributist, it will engage in the Résistance, and dies in deportation with Bergen-Belsen in 1945.
