Georges Sarre

Georges Sarre , born with Chénérailles in the Digs, the November 26th 1935, is a French Politician. He was Secretary of State in various Socialist governments between 1988 and 1993. He is currently mayor of XIe district of Paris.

Post-office employee at the time of " Paris-Brune"

It is with postal and telecommunications authorities that Georges Sarre makes her first weapons of militant. Named in the sorting office postal Paris-Brown, set up at the beginning of the year 1960 (and demolished since), it is " there; inspecteur" , charged to frame a certain number of agents screening machines.

This political structure, which answers the organization of the Communists in " cells of companies, would have counted several thousands of members on Paris. In May 1968, by the means of this association, Georges Sarre takes part in the strike committee of Paris-Brown and acquires a notoriety which it puts at the service of the political current that it animates.

Socialist militant

Cofounder of the Ceres and the Association of the socialist post-office employees, it takes part in the foundation of the socialist party with Épinay in 1971 and gives with his friends of Ceres the majority to François Mitterrand.

From 1969 to 1971, he is First Secretary of the Federation of Paris of the Socialist party and prints a new orientation and a great dynamics to him.

Chief candidate of the PS to the municipal elections in Paris in 1977, it is beaten by Jacques Chirac with only two thousand votes of delay. He is elected appointed European in 1979, then appointed Paris in 1981. Georges Sarre will be Secretary of State to Transport of 1988 with 1993, in the governments formed by Michel Rocard, Edith Cresson, Pierre Bérégovoy. He is mayor of the 11th district of Paris since 1995 and chair Group MRC the Conseil of Paris since 2001.

In 1993, in the electoral rout of the left, Georges Sarre is the only deputy of left re-elected in Paris. In dissension with the Socialist party of which he wants to thwart the liberal drift, he creates with Jean-Pierre Chevènement the Movement of the Citizens of which he becomes the spokesperson and the Vice-president, then the President in 2001. In 2002, it supports naturally, within the Republican Pole, the candidature of his friend Jean-Pierre Chevènement for the presidential election. In 2003, it is named spokesperson of the M.R.C., Republican movement and Citizen, who ensures the continuity of the Movement of the Citizens and the Republican Pole. In December 2004, at the conclusion of the congress of Bidassoa, he is elected Prermier secretary of the MRC.

Appointed 1981 with 1988 and of 1993 with 2002, it is beaten by the Socialist Danièle Hoffman-Rispal.

Vice-president then president of the Movement of the citizens between 1992 and 2002, he is the first secretary of the Republican movement and citizen since December 2004.

Georges Sarre supported the candidature of Jean-Pierre Chevènement for the presidential election of 2002 and invested himself in the preparation of the new candidature of this one for the presidential election of 2007.

But, in the evening of December 9th, a political agreement intervened between the PS and the MRC, that Georges Sarre signed jointly with François Holland. It resulted from it that Jean-Pierre Chevènement and the MRC supported the candidature of Ségolène Royal, dice the first turn of the presidential election of 2007. For its part, Georges Sarre, invested by the MRC in the 2nd district of Hollow for the legislative elections of June 2007, received also the support of the PS. Chénérailles, the borough of its birth and its childhood, is located in this district. It chose for substitute Michel Moine, mayor and socialist general adviser of Aubusson

Georges Sarre will thus face, with legislative of 2007, the outgoing deputy Jean Auclair (UMP).
