Georges Nomarski
Georges Nomarski born January 6th 1919 and dead the February 17th 1997 with Antony, is the inventor of the Microscope to interferential contrast.
It is during these studies with the Polytechnic school of Warsaw that Georges Nomarski impassions himself for optics. Member of Polish resistance it is made prisoner in Germany until 1945, it enters then to the the University of Louvain to Belgium then to the University of optics which it leaves qualified engineer in 1949, date on which it joined the laboratories of the school as a trainee of research of the National center of the scientific research. Since 1950, it creates the laboratory of microscopy of the Institute of optics and becomes research director in 1965. G. Nomarski deposited a great number of patents and he is the inventor of improvements of which some overflow the framework of interferential contrast.
Invention: interferential microscopy
Famous to the international level in the medium of optics, Georges Nomarski contributed by the invention of the microscope to interferential contrast to the emergence of new knowledge in the sector of the basic research and applied. This new system, now known under the name of Nomarski system, consists in introducing an interferential device inside the tube of microscope. It makes it possible to observe transparent microscopic objects and brought, by removing the phenomenon of halation, an improvement with the contrast of phase invented by Zernike which obtained for this work the Nobel Prize in 1953. Developed initially in France and improved with the passing of years since 1950, the microscope with interferential contrast made considerable great strides in the research laboratories because of the quality of the images obtained, being essential in many sectors and through the whole world.
