Biography
Resulting from a modest family of morvandiaux peasants - his/her father is workman typographer with the " Nationale" , his/her mother cleaning lady, Georges Montaron were born in Paris on April 10th 1921. It died there on October 8th 1997.It is resistant , member of the Young Christians Combatants, president of the Christian working Jeunesse, administrator of the Social security to its creation, director of Christian Témoignage, treasurer then president of the National union of the Weekly press, founder of a great number of titles and movements such as:
- Télérama ;
- the Groups Christian Testimony;
- the Red Help with Jean-Paul Sartre;
- Recasting with JC Tillion and Gisele Halimi;
- Believers in Freedom…
Its character, forged in Resistance, is the refusal of all totalitarianisms and dogmatisms. Its meeting with Christian Témoignage - newspaper resulting from Resistance - founds a one half-century adventure. History of Georges Montaron and that of " TC" become indistinguishable and their separation will result in his death.
In the name of its faith and values exit of the Resistance, this demanding Christian militant, figurehead of the " Cathos of gauche" , Socialist because Christian, prolongs, at the end of the war, during 50 years, the engagements against oppressions and for the dignity of the Man. Georges Montaron, opposes the French occupations in Indo-China, Tunisia and Algérie and denounces torture. What is worth to him to be continued by the French government, attacked by the extreme line and death threat by the OAS. This policy quite naturally leads it to take the defense of the Palestinian people, kanaks and sahraouis. It organizes in May 1970 with Beirut the World conference of the Christians for the Palestine.
Of par with these political actions and the defense of the Arab cause. It works for a reform of the interior of the Church and claims Christians " upright, free, and responsables". It militates for a revival of the Church and liturgy, supports the Abbé Pierre, defends the Churches of the third world, fights in favors of the priest workmen, and Mgr Gaillot . It launches the Call For a Church of the dialog with the service of the men and world which collects 250.000 signatures.
Eminent man of press, it enters to the Trade union of the Weekly press - also resulting from the Resistance of which he will become treasurer then president. During nearly one half-century, it does not have of cease, to defend the pluralism of the press which is in its eyes, the first of our freedoms, that which summarizes them all.
It is brutally évincé of Christian Témoignage on May 6th 1996. Estimating itself betrayed by some of its " amis" , it is wounded in the middle - with clean and with appeared. Hospitalized in Broussais in Paris in October, it undergoes two open-heart operations in November 1996. It dies there on October 8th, 1997, to have received shortly after the visit of Monseigneur Gaillot.
