Georges Maes

Georges Maes born with Baisy-Thy on December 20th 1929, deceased with Soignies on September 13rd 1993 is a Belgian politician and Walloon militant.

Professor in a technical establishment of Tubize, Georges Maes is initially militant Christian Labor movement which engages within the Walloon Rassemblement in 1970. He is to advise communal of Tubize of 1970 to 1976. He is elected appointed of Nivelles in 1971 at the time of the great progression of the Walloon Rassemblement and intervenes with the Chambre on questions of environment, also for the creation of a Walloon Office of the forests and wood which would be established with Saint-Hubert.

In 1975 he is rapporteur of the Commission which decides adoption of the official flag of the Communauté Wallonia-Brussels which adopts the Walloon flag of Pierre Paulus.

He follows Paul-Henry Gendebien when this one prints a turning on the left with the party which he chairs.

With the Congress of March 7th, 1977 of the new Walloon Gathering it defends a series of proposal: industrial redeployment in order to develop the Walloon assets, creation of a public Walloon industry group, a public credit and savings bank for Wallonia, reduction in the working time at 36 hours, regionalization of the FOREM. With the elections of April 1977, he is not re-elected. He is attached of cabinet of Leon Defosset until 1980, year during which he turns over to teaching, not without to have tried to still impose itself on the lists of Bubbles of the Walloon Gathering in 1981.
