Georges II of Amboise (1488 - 1550)

Wire of Jean VI of Amboise, (governor of Normandy), and of Catherine de Saint-Belin.

In 1509, at the 21 years age, his/her uncle the cardinal Georges d' Amboise appointed it archdeacon of the cathedral of Rouen.

December 4th, 1513, it was ordered priest with an exemption of the Pape, and little time afterwards, it succeeds his/her uncle in the archbishop's palace of Rouen.

It was promoted cardinal only very late, on December 15th, 1546, at the 58 years age.

He was lord of Bussy, Saxefontaine, Vigny, etc

Very rich, it gave sumptuous receptions in its castle of Gaillon where it received the king, the queen, the dolphin, and the most important characters of the kingdom and abroad.

In 1521, he refused to pay to the king the sum of 27.000 ecus taxes that this one claimed to him and, following this refusal, François Ier made it imprison.

He released it only a few months later, after the intervention of the Pope.

Georges II of Amboise however which had to be carried out on June 18th, 1523 to avoid the seizure of all the goods of the church in its diocese.

In 1542, the king claimed to him, again, 100.000 ecus of taxes.

February 5th, 1550, it took part in Rome with the election of the new pope Jules III.

He died in his castle of Vigny, little time after his return of Rome, on April 25th, 1550 and was made bury beside his uncle Georges d' Amboise in the chorus of the cathedral of Rouen.
