Georges Grisel
Georges Grisel , born the January 13rd 1765 with Abbeville, dead the June 22nd 1812 with Nantes, is a French soldier.
Wire of a tailor of Abbeville, it engages in the army in 1782. Reformed in 1784 because of its too small size, he becomes apprentice tailor in his father, before settling as tailor with Paris.
In 1791, it takes again service and takes share in the campaigns of the Révolution, climbing the ranks until that of captain.
It is confined with the camp of Grenelle in 1796 when it becomes acquainted with Augustin Darthé and enters the Conjuration of Equal the, on April 1st. Named at the station of liaison officer with the soldiers, it writes several lampoons. It seems that he adhered to the beginnings with his objectives, but he betrays it soon, by interest undoubtedly, but also by fear of being discovered and reformed again, because it doubts success of the operation and has the feeling to be misled. In front of the hope of a promotion, it reveals the existence with Carnot the May 3rd 1796 and receives for that a " of it; gratification" of 63 000 francs. The May 10th, it organizes the arrest of Babeuf. One of the principal witnesses for the prosecution at the time of the lawsuit of Vendôme, it is reinstated in the army in January 1797.
He is heard like witness in the lawsuit of the mutineers of the camp of Grenelle the February 20th 1797. That is worth the " to him; vexations" with the 52e Half-brigade, where he is officer; he complains some in Carnot which makes it name, the October 16th 1800, adjudant of the place of Nantes, function which he occupies until his death.
