Georges Frederic de Bade-Durlach
Georg Friedrich, margrave de Bade-Durlach (in German: Baden-Durlach ) was a prince of the Germanic Roman Holy roman Empire which took share, on the side of the Protestants, with the combat of the Guerre Thirty Year old. It was born on January 30th, 1573 and died in Strasbourg on September 24th, 1638.
Georg Friedrich first of all inherited only part of the fields his/her father. After the death of sound frêre Ernst Friedrich which had obtained since 1590 the margraviat of Bade-Hachberg, it accepted the totality of the heritage when its other died frêre Jakob. Thus both margraviats of the branch ernestine of Bade were again joined together between its hands.
It took part in an active way in the religious controversies born from the Reform and engaged in the Evangélique Union of the states Lutherans of the Holy roman Empire.
At the beginning of the Thirty Year old war, it raised itself an army of 12.000 men to help to make stopping with Imperial and the League which were then during a favorable time after the Bataille of the White Mountain and the resumption in hand of the Bohemia. To preserve its family dynasty of the disadvantages which it could have undergone of the continuations of this engagement, it yielded the capacity in 1622 to his son Frederic V.
A first combat in the Rhenish Palatinat (Battle of Wiesloch, on April 27th, 1622) had shown a reverse of the army of the League ordered by Tilly. This one, having made its junction with a Spanish army ordered by Cordoba, however inflicted a complete defeat with the margrave with the Bataille of Wimpfen on May 6th, 1622, this one being separated from Mansfeld. Georg Friedrich had to flee towards Stuttgart, definitively gave up its crown with the profit of his/her Frederic son and left to take refuge with Geneva.
In 1627, it took again service for the war at the sides of king de Danemark. When Wallenstein was turned over into Danish, Georg Friedrich was folded up towards the island of Poel and took refuge in Heiligenhafen in Holstein. It is there that its army was completely swept rear the catholic forces.
