Georges Fontenis
Georges Fontenis was born in 1920, is a French anarchist.
He approaches the libertarian movement at the time of the strikes of June 1936.
In 1944, it joined the clandestine CGT, and will take part in the commissions of purification of State education in 1945 (he is then member of the trade union counsel of the section of the Seine of the National union of the teachers to the title of the tendency émancipée École).
It is quite naturally that it takes part in the rebuilding of the French libertarian movement in 1945 and with the congress constitutive of the anarchistic Fédération. Its life merges then with that of the libertarian movement until 1957, date on which it is stopped by the Direction of the monitoring of the territory (DST) for its support for the Algerian freedom fighters.
In 1946, he is elected general secretary of the anarchistic Federation. New man, it makes consensus because belonging to no “clan”. Indeed the tendencies libertarian Communist and individualist cohabit badly within F. The individualists, carried out by the Brothers Lapeyre and Andre Arru, are organized in fraction, and endeavor to block, with each congress, the efforts of structuring of F.
At the beginning of 1950, part of the libertarian Communists, around Georges Fontenis, are organized in their turn in fraction, which they will name Battle Thought Organization (OPB), to bring back F to the labor movement.
In 1953, the OPB carries it. F transforms soon into libertarian communist Fédération (FCL). The individualists and part of the libertarian Communists gathered around Merry Maurice which did not tolerate the methods of the OPB, will reconstitute an anarchistic news Fédération.
In 1951, Georges Fontenis takes part in an attempted murder of the Franco general, with Spanish anarchists in exile.
As from 1954, the FCL and Georges Fontenis engage thoroughly in the political and “logistic” support for the Algerian insurrection. In 1957, the FCL is destroyed by the French State and several organizers of the FCL, of which Fontenis, imprisoned.
In 1968, it takes part in the foundation of the libertarian communist Mouvement (MCL), which will be transformed soon into libertarian communist Organization (OCL known as “first manner”) but will disappear in 1976.
In 1979, it adheres to the Union libertarian communist workers. He is today member of Alternative libertarian.
