Georges Courteline
Georges Courteline , of his true name Georges Victor Marcel Moinaux , born the June 25th 1858 with Turns, dead the June 25th 1929 with Paris, was a Romancier and Dramaturge French.
This wire of the writer and humorist Jules Moinaux (pseudonym of Desired Moinaux) made his studies with the college of Meaux. It carried out its military service in the hunters with horse before becoming civil servant with the Ministry for the Worships.
It spends fourteen years in the public office, having any leisure to observe his colleagues, before the success of its works enables him to be devoted exclusively to the writing. These first experiments provided him its independent sources of literary inspiration.
In its first parts - Cheerfulnesses of the squadron (1886), Lidoire (1891) - he has fun to turn in derision the army. the Pen-pushers (1893) attacks with the employees and the bureaucrats. Boubouroche (1893), its famous news that André Antoine asks him to adapt for his Theater-Free, takes for target the lower middle class. Following works, accounts or plays, are relevant sketches of various mediums, seized on the sharp one, but without true spite. a serious customer (1896) and the Balances (1901) aim at the medium of justice and the courts. the police chief is good child and the gendarme is without pity (1899) denounce the silly thing and the spite of the police force. Lastly, the Fear of the blows (1894), Mr Badin (1897) and Peace at home (1903) have of another claim to only amuse by showing ridiculous couple. In its work, been useful by an admirable style, Courteline gave a remarkable description of through its time.
For its painting of the characters, it in particular knew to use the dialogs of which it did one within the essential competences of its comic. Representatives of a given social class - the magistrate, the warrant officer - or types of individual - the middle-class woman, the miserly one -, his characters are all of a rare and remarkable mediocrity. They appear in intrigues inspired of the daily newspaper, but from where the absurdity emerges. Author appreciated in his time for his satirical liveliness suitable to depict them through lower middle class, his work is a satire of the daily silly thing, which depicts absurd contradictions of the administration and the soldiers.
Him the expression " is owed; that will make the street Michel" , resulting from a word game based on the street Michel-the-Account (Paris): “ You will make your quat' days of prison and that will make the street Michel ”.
Courteline is decorated with the Légion of honor in 1899 and is elected with the Académie Goncourt in 1926. It is buried with the Cimetière of the Father-Lachaise.
