Georges Charpak

Georges Charpak , born the 1924 with Dąbrowica in Poland (today in Ukraine), is a Physicien French, prize winner of the Nobel Prize of physics 1992.

Biography

It arrives to France at the seven years age and becomes French citizen in 1946.

During the Second world war, it enters the Résistance and is interned during one year in the concentration camp of Dachau in Germany. Its studies in the preparatory classes with the Lycée Saint-Louis in Paris enable him to be allowed with the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the mines of Paris from which it is graduate in 1947. He is pupil of Frederic Joliot-Curie with the Collège de France and also works in his laboratory.

In 1948 it is allowed with CNRS and in 1959 with CERN. It is in the latter laboratory that it develops the room proportional multifils, a Détecteur of particles which is worth the to him Nobel Prize of physics in 1992 and which quickly replaces the bubble chambers by allowing a data processing of the data.

In 1984, is high with the pulpit of Joliot-Curie to the University of industrial physics and chemistry of Paris and is elected Membre of the Academy of Science the May 20th 1985.

From 1996, with the support of the Academy of Science and of its colleagues Pierre Léna and Yves Quéré, it takes the head of an important movement of restoration of the teaching of sciences to the elementary school, the hand with the paste , which touches today close to a school on three in France and essaime in the whole world.
