Georges Castellana

The Canon Georges Castellana , born and died in Nice (1898 - 1964), was a priest posts some in the Old man-Nice.

There exists a street Canon-Georges-Castellana with Nice (F-06100).

The fasteners of G. Castallana are important. The population of the Comté of Nice indeed concentrated on the littoral and in her capital, since 1860, the economic advancement being accompanied by a Rural migration. One can thus hear all kinds of speeches Occitan S in Nice and of the Niçois itself primarily in the old districts.

Its quality of priest in fact an invaluable adviser since it was capable to confess his flocks as well in niçois as in French.

He was Aumônier Penitent-Blacks , one of these penitent brotherhoods of laic, which, with regard to France, is specific to Nice and its area like at certain cities of the South.

There locally remains famous for its dictionaries, very complete and which always make authority.

To note that the noted language is that of the town of Nice and not the whole of the speeches of the Comté of Nice.

These works use the C-W communication mistralienne and not unified the C-W communication known as “occitane”. “Sweet chestnut” is written there castagna (Mistral written castagno ) and not castanha as in the C-W communication known as occitane which is spread today. All the characteristic of the niçois are noted.

These dictionaries are invaluable because they indicate also number of Gentilé S (which one cannot strictly describe as autochtones since it is about gentilé not used by the interested parties themselves but by Niçois) which follows the toponym and is preceded by read which is the male article plural in Nice, for example: Chin: Mentoun; read Mentounasc ( this example is taken on the shape occitane of a city where it is not the standard occitan which is spoken ).
