Georges Berthoin
Georges Berthoin (Nérac, Lot-et-Garonne May 17th, 1925 -) is a senior official and Diplomate French. It occupied the position of director of the cabinet of the IGAME (General inspection of the administration on mission extraordinary) Alsace-Lorraine-Champagne of 1950 to 1952. It left this function to become the principal private secretary of the president Jean Monnet with the High ranking authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) (1952-1955). Chief-assistant of the delegation of ECSC and person in charge in the United Kingdom (1956-1958), he became then assistant High-Representative of the Commission of the European Economic community with the the United Kingdom (1959-1970), then High-Representative of the Commission of the European Economic community at the United Kingdom (1970-1973).
European convinced of the first hour, it considers that Europe was born from the suffering and the reflection on the direction which it was necessary to give him after the two world wars so that any war between European States is from now on impossible. As of the first discussions which followed the declaration of Robert Schuman of May 9th, 1950 the two broad outlines took shape which characterize European construction still today: the intergovernmental line and the Community line.
For Georges Berthoin, the intergovernmental line is unable besides to direct Europe. According to him, the current crisis of Europe is the consequence owing to the fact that the Traité of Maastricht introduced more intergovernmental matter in Europe, and so the current crisis is that of the intergovernmental one.
Georges Berthoin is a historical pillar of European construction, one of the major actors, and for this reason, it gives many conferences to explain the long advance of these countries hostility with the fratenity .
Beyond his European engagement recognized and greeted of all, Georges Berthoin takes part in others go major to the international level. He is thus one of the founding members of the Forum China-Europe, an intercultural dialog space.
