Georges Bernardi

Georges Bernardi is a Entomologiste French of Russian origin , born in 1922 and dead the July 23rd 1999.

His/her parents must leave the Russia in 1928 and come to settle in France with Suresnes. Impassioned as of its childhood by the Entomology, it takes part as of its 16 years in the meetings of the entomological Société of France. It starts to work very young person, in 1940, its family being too poor for him offers studies. He works initially in the factory which employs already his/her father before being engaged by Eugene Grinds It (1882-1965) to help it in the treatment of its collections like for the drafting of its articles.

This collaboration is completed in a severe discord, Grinds It brings a lawsuit without success to him, and Bernardi must resume its work with the factory. In parallel, it devotes all its leisures to the Lépidoptère S and works in particular on the collections of the laboratory of entomology of the national Muséum of natural history, directed then by Jean Burgundy (1903-1999) and can support, in 1953, a diploma of higher learning relating to the classification of the Piéride S Malagasy S. the professor Georges Teissier (1900-1972) gives him a second subject then, as it was the practice then, bearing on the geographical variations of the Oiseau X and of the Lépidoptère S. It supports in March 1956 its second diploma is judged by Teissier, Pierre-Paul Grassé (1895-1985) and German Cousin (1896-1992). The jury decides, taking into account the quality of work completed, to transform the diploma of higher learning into doctorate of university.

This diploma then enables him to enter to CNRS in October 1956, initially as attache of research, then like in charge of research (1958) finally as senior research worker (1962). He works primarily on evolutionary taxonomy. He becomes member of the zoological International commission of nomenclature in 1972 and on several occasions directs the Société of biogeography. Its collection and its library were bequeathed to the Natural history museum.
