Georges-Jean de Veldenz

Georges-Jean de Veldenz ( Georg Hans or Johann ; 1543-1592) belonged to a branch junior by the palatine Maison of Wittelsbach, that of Double-decker (Zweibrücken) and Neuburg. Wire of Robert (Rupprecht) of Palatinat, he inherited as of 1544 the honorary titles '' Count Palatine the Rhine '', duke in Bavaria , as well as county of Veldenz (Georges-Jean Ier).

The Count Palatine acquired the county of Lützelstein thereafter ('' Small Pierre ''). Its popularity was worth to him to be familiarly called " Jerri Hans" by its subjects. Become by the weapons owner of the castle of Lutzelbourg (in Alsace) in 1577, it renonça to rebuild it: only its ruins thus arrived to us.

Georges-Jean married in 1562 the princess Anna Maria (1545-1610), girl of the king de Suède Gustave I {{er}} Vasa richly equipped, of which nacquirent:

  • Georges Gustave (1564-1634) which succeeded to him in its titles (1592-1634)
  • Jean Auguste (1575-1611)
  • Louis-Philippe (1577-1601)
  • Georges-Jean II (1586-1654).

Prince protesting, undertaking and visionary, the Count Palatine founded the town of Phalsbourg, wedged in the Duché of Lorraine and which was to be used as refuge with reformed expelled of the duchy. This company put at evil its finances in spite of the dowry of his wife, and it had to sell the city to the duke of Lorraine.
