Georges-Andre Chevallaz

Georges-Andre Chevallaz is a Swiss politician, born the February 7th 1915 with Lausanne, deceased the September 8th 2002. It was federal adviser of 1974 with 1983, member of the radical-democratic Parti.

Federal adviser

    • It must face a deficit of the Confederation and recommends, by twice, in 1977 and 1979 the institution of the tax to the added-value to replace the tax on the turnover. It is not followed by the people which on the other hand adopt in 1977 the constitutional principle of the formal fiscal harmonization.
  • 1980, military department
    • It defends the acquisition of the Léopard tanks, the Rapier planes and a new rifle of attack. It runs up against criticisms concerning P-26, an organization of resistance which the Federal council will have to dissolve.
  • Fine 1983, resignation of the Federal council. Jean-Pascal Delamuraz will succeed to him the government.
  • During its presidential year in 1980, Chevallaz receives the Queen Elizabeth II in visit of State.

Opposition to European Economic space

  • It will be opposed to the accession of Switzerland to European Economic space in 1992 via his/her son Martin Chevallaz.

Publications

  • He is the author of many publications relating, p. e.g., to agriculture of Vaud, the genesis of the Company of the Nations, the Swiss political institutions
  • Manuel of history used in secondary education, " General history of 1789 with our jours". From the years 1970, this handbook was strongly criticized because it overlooks or that it minimizes the behaviors collaborationnists of certain mediums of the economy and part of the Swiss authorities during the Second world war (economic collaboration with the Nazi regime).

  • His son, the deputy Martin Chevallaz (military career) who fought against the European Economic space in 1992 and was which was candidate UDC with the Council of State of Vaud in 2004 (election gained by the Socialist Pierre-Yves Maillard).
