George observatory

The observatory George is located in the Parc of state Brazos Bend, close to Sugar Land with the Texas. It depends on the Musée of the natural science of Houston. This astronomical Observatoire has three Télescope S under dome. Largest is the telescope of Gueymard research, of a diameter of 36" (90 cm). It before is very intended for the sensitizing of the public; it includes/understands a Challenger Learning Center for education with space sciences and also has an exposure of meteorites.

The George observatory is opened with the public Saturday evening and is available on reservation Friday evening for groups of 30 people or more.

The astronomers amateurs often install their portable telescopes at the time of the nights of observation and the public can then observe free. The local astronomers already discovered more than 410 Astéroïde S using the instruments of the observatory. The Minor Planet Center allots to him the discovery of 63 asteroids under the name Needville .

The observatory is built on an elevated ground which is never flooded, although the access is cut from there to rare occasions of very high level of water.
