George Voinovich
George Victor Voinovich (born in 1936) is an American politician, member of the Republican party, senator of the Ohio to the Congrès of the United States since 1999, former governor of the state of 1991 with 1998 and former mayor of Cleveland of 1980 with 1988.
George Voinovich was born the July 15th 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, of a father Serbe and a Slovenien mother .
Voinovich is graduate in right of the university of Ohio.
In 1963, Voinovich is the assistant of the Attorney General of Ohio.
Of 1967 with 1971, he is member of the Room of the representatives of Ohio.
Of 1971 with 1976, it is " county auditor" county of Cuyahoga.
In 1978, it is elected lieutenant-governor of Ohio at the side of the governor James Rhodos.
In 1980, it is elected mayor of Cleveland by beating the democratic mayor outgoing, Dennis Kucinich.
In 1988, it tries to be made elect with the American Senate but is beaten clearly by the democratic holder, Howard Metzenbaum.
In 1990, it is elected governor of Ohio by beating his adversary, Anthony J. Celebrezze Jr., and thus succeeds the democratic governor Richard Celeste.
In 1994, it is re-elected governor of Ohio with 72% of the voices against the democrat Robert L. Burch Jr.
In November 1998, it is elected senator of Ohio to the Congress of the United States, taking again the seat of the Democratic senator John Glenn, left vacant.
In November 2004, Voinovich is re-elected senator with 64% of the voices compared with 36% with the democrat Eric Fingerhut.
Voinovich is a qualified moderate republican of RINO by its preserving adversaries.
In May 2005, member of the committee of the Senate of the international relations, it refuses to ratify the nomination of John R. Bolton, candidate of George W. Bush at the station of American ambassador in the United Nations. He declared in particular, in tears, with the platform of the Senate: " We all will vote tomorrow and I am afraid well that when we will go to the ballot box, that far too many my colleagues ..... that far too many my colleagues will not understand that this nomination is very very important for our country, at one strategic moment whereas we need friends in the whole world. We need somebody over there who will be able to make the job. And I know, from the colleagues will tell me " Ah, George, drop, that goes marcher". I do not want to take this risk. I returned here, I undertook a new mandate, because I am concerned with my children and of my grandchildren. I hope only that my colleagues will take the time necessary, and that before going to the ballot box, they will have reflects seriously to know if we must send or not John Bolton to the United Nations "
