George Vancouver

Montmeyran is a common French, located at 14 km in the south-east of Valence in the department of the Drome and the area the Rhone-Alps. Its inhabitants is called Montmeyranais.

Is there the castle of Montalivet , pertaining to the family of Jean-Pierre Bachasson, count de Montalivet, minister of Napoleon i and his son Camille Bachasson, count de Montalivet, minister of Louis-Philippe.

Geography

History

Montmeyran was formed with hillside following the establishment of a group of monks depending on the Benign Benedictine abbey Saint of Dijon. Strengthened, the borough had a surface of three hectares and half inside which one found the church Saint Blaise, the castle, of the houses, a hospital… One reached it by two doors: in the west, the Enjame door leading to the street Fontripierre; in the east that of Barry to communicate with the fields of the plain.

In 1217, Simon IV of Montfort takes and destroys the castle during the Albigensian Crusade.

To the 16th century, part of the inhabitants adhere to the Réforme: consequently, the community montmeyranaise divided itself between Protestants and catholics. The first gathered in the districts is: dined, Rorivas, the Little laddies, while the seconds invested the new village located at the foot of the Meyran Mount.

Just like the Dauphine one, Montmeyran did not know serious events during the Revolution. It approached however the great history by the means of the family Bachasson, holder of the ground of Montalivet:

  • Jean-Pierre Bachasson, count de Montalivet bound friendship with a young Corsican soldier in garrison to Valence, Napoleon Bonaparte. This last will take care from now on of its career, going even until him to entrust 1809 to 1814 the important station of Minister of Interior Department.
  • His/her son, Camille Bachasson, count de Montalivet will also work him in the alleys of the capacity, since it will be him also Minister of Interior Department under the Monarchie of July.

At the 19th century, a significant market with the horses is established to with it, attracting merchants coming from Provence, Languedoc even of Italy and Spain. The State was supplied in Montmeyran to equip its troops with the conquest with the Algérie.

Montmeyran also cultivates the Noyer and the Silkworm.
