George VI of the United Kingdom
George VI ( Albert Frederick Arthur George ) (December 14th 1895 - February 6th 1952) was king of the the United Kingdom of Great Britain and of the Northern Ireland and others Dominion S of the the Commonwealth of 1936 until its death.
He was the son of the king George V, then duke of York, and the duchess, later the queen Marie. Opposed left-handed person, afflicted with a strong stammering, in 1920, it became duke of York, count d' Inverness, and baron Killarney , reaching on the same basis that his/her father until in 1901 had held.
He appeared to be likely little to reach the throne, since his/her brother, the prince David, later the king Edouard VIII, preceded it in the line by succession. He thus had a certain freedom; he served in the Royal Navy during the First World War, and married Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923. It accepted to marry it after several refusal.
Thanks to the distance between him and the throne, the duke of York and his duchess could educate their daughters, the princesses Elisabeth and Margaret, in a rather normal environment. It was disappointed when his/her brother, king Edouard, decided to abdicate and to leave him the throne.
Its crowning took place with the Abbaye of Westminster, the May 12th 1937. It chooses the name of George VI, partially to respect the desire of the queen Victoria that no later king used the name of her husband, and partially to restore public confidence in monarchy by using the same name as his/her father.
A few years afterwards, when the Second world war started, the royal family which had known an important fall of popularity, succeeds in rectifying moral nation, in particular by her famous speech of Christmas. London crowd applauds it the balcony of Buckingham where it had taken seat the day of the Victoire at the sides of Churchill, the Queen Elizabeth and her two daughters.
After the war, the king knew serious health issues: reached of a Lung cancer he died the February 6th 1952 of an embolism with Sandringham House. His/her daughter, who made a turn of Africa, returned from Kenya and succeeded to him like the queen Elisabeth II of the United Kingdom. It is buried with the Château of Windsor.
The king George VI was used like last king of Ireland in agreement with external Relations Act (1936) as Ireland, until his replacement by the Republic off Ireland Act in April 1949 (he remained king of Northern Ireland). He was also the last Empereur of the Indies before the independence of the India and the Pakistan the August 15th 1947.
In January 1941, it promulgated the royal law creating the George Medal.
