George Raft is an American actor, born the September 26th 1895 with New York, deceased the November 24th 1980 with Los Angeles.

Its true name is George Ranft .

Biography

• Born in a difficult district of New York, the Hell' S Kitchen , it is very quickly confronted with the violence of the street and binds bonds with the underworld.
• In 1919, he becomes professional dancer and is re-elected on this occasion George Raft. He dances in clubs, fact of the rounds.
• At the end of the Twenties, it starts its cinematographic career with small roles of dancer.
• In 1932, its role in Scarface, where its character compulsivement makes whirl a coin, makes it famous.
• From now on, it alternates with the cinema the roles of dancer and those of gangster. One sees it with the screen at the sides of a " débutant" named Humphrey Bogart.
• In 1941, it refuses roles in the Maltese falcon, the Great Escape ( High Sierra ) and Casablanca… three films which propel Humphrey Bogart on the front of the scene.
• Consequently, its career is on the decline. It does not obtain any more as good roles as front, except for its role of gangster in Some like it hot (1959).
• It makes an appearance at the time of the final scene of the film Casino Royal of 1968, parody of spy films of the time. In reference to his character of Scarface, one sees it making whirl a part of monnaire between his fingers with the right in the middle of a brawl.
• It dies of Leucémie on November 24th, 1980.
