George Poulett Scrope
George Julius Poulett Scrope (March 10th 1797 - January 19th 1876) is a geologist and British economist . He is the second wire of J Poulett Thompson.
He studies with Harrow, and for one short period with Pembroke College, then in 1816 he enters to St John' S College and receives its diploma in 1821. Influenced by ED Clarke and Adam Sedgwick it is interested in the Géologie and the Minéralogie. During the winter 1816 - 1817 it is with Naples and is interested so much by the Vesuvius which it renews its stay in 1818. The following year he visits the Etna and the Îles Lipari. In 1821 it Marie with the girl and heiress of William Scrope de Castle Combe, Wiltshire and takes its name. It enters to the Parliament in 1833 for the Comté of Stroud, seat which it preserves until in 1868.
During this time he studies the volcanic areas of France in 1821. He visits the area of Eiffel in Germany in 1823. In 1825 it publishes Considerations one Volcanos leading to a new theory of the Ground, this work is extended and republished in 1862, delivers which made authority in its field. He is elected member of the Royal Society in 1826.
In 1827 it publishes its traditional Memoir one the Geology off Central France, including the Volcanic formations off Auvergne, the Velay and the Vivarais -- Memory on the geology of the Massif Central, including the volcanic formations of Auvergne, the Velay and the Vivarais -- illustrated with charts and engravings. This edition is revised and becomes more popular in 1858 under the title The Geology and extinct Volcanos off Central France .
The Geological Society off London decrees the to him Médaille Wollaston in 1867.
It off publishes also History the Manor and Ancient Barony off Castle Combe in 1852. He dies has Fairlawn close to Cobham the January 19th 1876.
