George Leotsakos

George Leotsakos (in), born with Athens the August 9th 1935, is a Greek Musicologue and musical Critique famous, fine expert of the Greek erudite music. Its contribution to the catalogs of works of the Greek type-setters of the last centuries is essential.

Biography

He studied near the type-setters Kostas Kydoniatis and Yannis Andréou Papaïoannou, and obtained his diploma of counterpoint and running away to the Hellenic Conservatoire of Athens in 1964.

He collaborates with the principal newspapers and re-examined Athens, took part in a universal biographical dictionary (in Greek) in 1991, writes the programmes of many concerts as well as booklets often very documented (in Greek and English) of recordings on CD of Greek type-setters, in particular for the Athenian recording company Lyra and the Department of Music of the Ionian Université of Corfou. Especially, since the years 1970, it off writes notes for the prestigious encyclopedia The New Grove Dictionary Music and Musicians . Moreover, it is one of the rare Western musicologists to be themselves returned in Albania, starting from 1981 and to study the music of it. He is the author of several monographs and innumerable articles.

George Leotsakos, who also animated musical programs for radio Greek of 1983 with 1987, regularly gives musical conferences through Greece and abroad.
