George Busk
George Busk (August 12th 1807, Saint-Pétersbourg - August 10th 1886, London) is a surgeon, zoologist and British paleontologist . He is the son of Robert Busk a merchant of Saint-Pétersbourg.
He studies the surgery with London in the hospitals St Thomas and St Bartholomew. He becomes assistant surgeon at the hospital of Greenwich in 1832 then serves as surgeon in the marine British during many years. During this period it carries out observations on the Choléra and the Scorbut.
In 1855 it withdraws service and settles with London or it devotes mainly to the study the Zoologie and of the Paléontologie. Starting from 1842 it takes part in the edition of the Microscopical Journal , in the Quarterly Journal off Microscopical Science of 1853 with 1868 and the Natural History Review -- Re-examined Natural history -- of 1861 with 1865. Of 1856 with 1859 he is professor of Anatomie compared and Physiologie with the Royal College off Suckers -- royal college of surgery -- he becomes the president in 1871.
He is elected member of the Royal Society in 1850, he is also an active member of the Société linnéenne of London, the Geological Society off London and others learned societies. In 1871, he is prize winner of the royal Médaille. Of 1873 with 1874 he is president of the Anthropological Institute -- the institute of Anthropology. Geological Society decrees the Médaille Wollaston in 1885 and the to him Médaille Lyell in 1878.
It quickly becomes an authority in the bryozoaire S. Later the remainders Fossile S of vertebrate S discovered in the caves or in the deposits coming from rivers draw its attention. He dies in London the August 10th 1886.
