George Brown

George Brown (November 29th 1818 - May 9th 1880) was a politician and a journalist of Scottish origin.

It founded the Toronto Globe (maintaining the Globe and Mail ) and was a politician reformist who supported the Canadian Confédération. It was one of the fathers of the Confederation, like Sir John A. MacDonald and George-Etienne Cartier.

Its alliance with the reds of the Canada-Is was sabotaged because it was perceived like a secularist anticlerical. The Irish reformists consequently chose to support William Lyon Mackenzie.
