George Auriol
George Auriol , of her true name Jean-Georges Huyot (1863 - 1938), was a complete artist who exerted the trades of poet, chansonnier, painter, graphic designer and draftsman of typographical natures.
Born in Beauvais in 1863, it makes its public beginnings in 1885, at the 22 years age as sub-editor of the Black Cat, a popular cabaret of Montmartre. Besides it has to him even made up several songs of which most famous was the lovesong entitled “When the lilacs refleuriront”.
In 1902, this illustrator (he worked for Larousse or Hatchet) doubled of an endowed lettror, launches out in the typography and created several block letters of inspiration Art nouveau of which that which bears his name and Hector Guimard was inspired for lettering by the stations by the Parisian subway.
He collaborated with the Fonderie G. Peignot and Fils for which he created: the Frenchwoman-light , the Frenchwoman-lengthened , the Auriol-labor, the Auriol-champlevé and the Robur. He is also the author of three books devoted to the seals and the monograms.
He will finish his career as professor of drawing to the school Estienne from 1924 before disappearing at the 75 years age.
