Georg Tintner

Georg Tintner is a Austrian Leader of origin Jewish, naturalized New Zealand in 1946, born the May 22nd 1917 with Vienna (Austria) and died the October 2nd 1999 with Halifax (Canada)

Biography

Tintner learns the music in the Austrian capital, where it all is at the same time marked by the “its Viennese” characteristic of the the Philharmonic orchestra and by the redécouverte then in full course of the original versions of the Symphonies of Anton Bruckner, of which it will become one of the most personal interpreters thereafter. Tintner studies in particular near Felix Weingartner and of Joseph Marx. At the time of the Anschluss , it must however leave its country. Taken refuge in New Zealand, it carries out to it during nearly ten years a discrete existence, near to the marginality, and starts to direct symphony orchestras only at the end of the years 1940, while starting with that of Auckland. Tintner quickly becomes the specialist more required romantic music austro-allemande in the countries of the the Commonwealth, directing the principal orchestras of its new fatherland, of the Australia, of Canada, but also of the Scotland and the Eire. The general level of these formations being very below that with which it had been familiarized in its youth, Tintner must teach a whole technical knowledge like control to them “Viennese” of the bow, completing in that a work identical to that of Bruno Walter with the Symphony orchestra of Columbia.

Installed in Canada since 1987, Tintner fought against the Cancer since 1993 until its suicide by defenestration in 1999. It had been named member of the Ordre of Canada in 1998.

It engraved a remarkable integral of the symphonies of Anton Bruckner with the royal National orchestra of Scotland for the firm Naxos and also written the booklets of presentation - in German and English:
