Geometrical time

One indicates by geometrical time one five periods of the Histoire of ancient Greece, going roughly from 900 to 750 av. J. - C. Its chronology is based on the study of the ceramic , which is characterized at the time, in Attique, Eubée and Argolide by a decoration with reasons for half-circles or concentric circles traced with the compass. If it is easy to determine great phases in the evolution of geometrical ceramics, it is on the other hand more difficult to make coincide these phases with the political changes or social of the period.

Many sculptures of this time were found at the 19th century, in particular on the site of Olympie. These animal representations (horses, rabbits, bulls, dog, etc) and human show an abstraction which is being exaggerated until the sub-geometrical time. This abstraction is the fruit of a will, not of an impossibility to better doing.
