Geography of the Republic of Moldavie
Geographical location
The République of Moldavie is located at the south-east of the Europe (45°28' - 48°28' NR, 26°40' - 30°06' E), between the rivers Prout and Dniestr (respectively Prut and Nistru in Rumanian) like on a narrow tape of left bank of Nistru, in its middle price and lower. Surrounded of the Romania and the Ukraine the République of Moldavie occupies an total surface area of 33.843 km ² (either approximately surface of the Burgundy or Belgium) including 33.371 km ² of ground. The country extends from north in the south on 350 km and from the west in the east on 150 km .

The Codru
In the central part are the Codru (in Rumanian; to pronounce Codrou ) (area wooded) the highest area with maximum altitude of 430 m . The processes of erosion and the landslides led to the formation of ravines in the shape of amphitheater where are located rural localities. The picturesque landscape of Codres is not without pointing out certain Swiss areas. This zone plays a big role in the maintenance of ecological balance. The hydrographic network includes/understands several hundreds of rivers and brooks, but only 7 of them exceed the 7 km length. The country has more than 50 natural lakes with an total surface area of approx. 60 km ². The reserve of subterranean water with a clear preponderance of drinking water is estimated at 200 mln. m3. The country is rich in mineral springs. In Moldavie exist 5 National parks having an entire surface of 19.400 ha.
Climate
The climate of the country is continental moderate, similar to that of Western Europe, with short and relatively soft winters (the average being of -3° C in January) and of the long and cordial summers (average of +25° C in July). The annual average temperature is of +10° C.
