Geography of the Republic of Macedonia

Physical geography

The Macedonia is a mountainous country, articulated around the average directed valley of the Vardar north-western - south-east.

The land borders lengthen on 766 km. The countries bordering are the Albania (151 km), the Serbia (221 km), the Bulgaria (148 km) and the Greece (246 km).

The country does not have any maritime outlet.

The strategic function of Macedonia east derived from its command on the large corridor which carries out Eastern Europe towards the Mediterranean along the Morava and of Vardar, a road which was the witness of the passage of innumerable Greek armies, Roman, Slavic and Turkish.
