Geoffroy de Grandmaison
Charles-Alexandre Geoffroy de Grandmaison , born in Paris on September 7th, 1858, deceased in 1931, is a French historian.
Biography
Geoffroy de Grandmaison married, on September 23rd, 1884, Marie-Therese Parent of Chatelet. He devoted most of his activity to the catholic circles of workmen. He was early an active member of the Olivaint conference. It is there that it became acquainted with Albert de Mun with which it often will collaborate, in particular on the Speeches published in 1888, and after which it was elected in 1910 president of the bibliographical company, function which it provided until his death in 1931. He was also member of the councils of the Company of modern history, of the diplomatic Company of history, the royal Academy of history of Madrid, of the Academy of the Arcades of Rome and the Academy of Clermont. During the war, it organized circulating libraries in order to allow the reading in the trenches, the hospitals and the prison camps. The pope Benoît XV paid a homage solemn to his devotion and declared that it had deserved Church well.
