Geoffroy Velten
Geoffroy Velten was born on September 10th, 1831 with Brumath and died on September 21st 1915 with Paris. He is the son of Geoffroy Velten (1806-1869), brewer with Brumath, and of Anne-Marie Strohl (1807-1885), originating in Schweighouse close Haguenau.

Biography
Geoffroy Velten, already grandson and back grandson of a line of Alsatian brewers, marry on September 5th, 1857, in Marseilles, Marie-Adele Velten, the girl of his uncle Jean-Jacques Velten (1802 Brumath - 1870 Marseilles), trader and brewer with Marseilles and of Eugenie Marie Bohler. It domiciled at that time street Bernard Dubois.
Previously, after studies at the university of Brumath, he becomes science graduate in 1846. In 1848, it settles in Marseilles where it works in the brewery of his uncle and future father-in-law. In 1861, it founds its own establishment which will be at the origin of the Brasseries of the Mediterranean . In 1890 its brewery has a production capacity of 25.000 beer hl. It also manufactures ice for the tradind ships and installs the first pneumatic malt factory of France. In 1881, it resells its company and is devoted to the policy.
Following the example some reformed, the brewer Geoffroy Velten of Marseilles, is under the Second Empire, republican militant. He supports the candidatures of Gambetta in 1868 and Esquivos in 1869.
In 1870, it creates a relief fund and fact gift of two machine-guns for national defense. He is cofounder of the company of Alsace-Lorraine in 1871, and the vice-presidency until 1877 ensures some.
Geoffroy Velten finances the Marseilles republican newspapers and takes part, with Clovis Hugues in 1876, with the creation of the young Republic , first version of the Petit Of Provence (1880). In July 1880, it founds the Pioneers of the future , an youth organization with aimings patriotic and military.
It is city council man of Marseilles in 1874-75; in 1880, he is elected at the General advice, then becomes Senator of the Rhone delta, elected on the list of the Republicans the 1/25/1885, where he succeeds Eugene Pelletan. He is re-elected the 1/7/1894 (with 232 votes out of 405 votes cast) like representative of the party republican radical. He starts one 3rd mandate the 1/4/1903, registered in the rows of the democratic Gauche. At the end of its mandate, the 1/6/1912, it is not represented any more.
It is named chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1881, then officer in 1885, distinction of its devotion to the war wounded of 1870 and to his action at the time of the cholera epidemic which prevails in Marseilles.
Geoffroy Velten, like of reformed much, vote the law on the secularity of 1905. It takes share with the debate on the flat rate of the customs, defends the interests of its voters. There exists a place Geoffroy Velten with Brumath, where its native house is located, the old family brewery.
Descent
Its nephew, Edouard Velten , directs to Marseilles the Brasseries of the Mediterranean , created by his uncle and his grandfather Jean-Jacques Velten, after having made his training in Lyon. He has an important social role with Marseilles and is member of the Chamber of commerce. He chairs the Raffineries of Sugar of Saint Louis.
Edouard Velten is interested in all Protestant works. He lastly lives a large house street Nicolas, in which he collects in particular his Adrienne daughter, become widowed early, with three children, having lost his husband, Arnaud de Cazenove, officer, having died at the beginning of the First World War.
